90% of the SNFs are like this; old building, old furniture, old equipment, and the resident gets a roommate. The facility is purposely way understaffed for higher profits, so when there's multiple call buttons being hit the staff prioritizes which ones to answer based on the patient's health condition(s). It's not necessarily the staff doesn't care, it's that they're very exhausted and they have to disassociate themselves in order to stay focused, which is why some appear cold and uncaring. However, some don't care and are lazy but are too stupid to want to better their skillset to get a higher paying job, so they're content with the low pay grade because unless they commit negligence they're guaranteed a job. Get your father out as soon as you can because he's at risk for catching a communicable illness the longer he stays there and this will keep him there longer which, is frankly, what administrators hope for - not him personally, it's just that they want all beds filled - all the time - for business - so if there's an opportunity to keep a patient there due to development of another health condition or the patient's health condition declines, they'll keep running up the insurance until it's time to move him to another crap facility. Sorry to sound cruel but I brutally survived our healthcare system when I took care of my father for four years and I saw exactly what 99% of the general public doesn't - until they're forced to go through the system as I had to and learned what really happens behind the scenes. You need to stay on top of your father's rehab so you can get him ASAP.

I was rather surprised in doing research for suitable nursing homes that all of them around here ranked at most a 3 out of 5 when it came to staff responsiveness. Even the facilities that were considered the best got a 2 or 3 when it came to the staff. I don't know if it is because the residents need a lot, the facilities are understaffed, or some of the staff is a bit lazy -- maybe a little of all three?

Both my parents had been in a rehab/nursing home, one facility was brand new, the other was from the 1950's and looked very dated. I actually think my Dad got better care at the old facility, plus the food was very good compared to the meals my Mom got at her new facility. So you never know. I never noticed anyone being disrespectful nor uncaring.

As for the call buttons, you'd be surprised how some patients will use the call buttons for things that they could do for themselves, therefore the nurses/aides know which rooms really needed quick attention.
