I miss taking care of my mom. She had metastatic breast cancer. She passed away March 14. My dad I was and am still taking care of him as well. He is a veteran. I have lost hours and hours of work over the last 6 months. Since my mom passed away, I continue to help care for my dad and just was wondering if there is any financial help for me. it’s a lot of work and I’m getting behind in my bills.

Irene1980, first my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family regarding your Mom.

The vast majority of grown children who take care of a parent(s) do not get paid, unless the parent(s) can pay that grown child from their own savings account.

You could check with your State Medicaid office [different from Medicare] to see what programs are available in your State [each State is different]. If there is a program where you can get paid, sadly it wouldn't be enough to live on. Or check with the Veteran Administration since your Dad was in the service.

I wish your Dad could get surgery for that artery blockage in his neck, as he is too young to ignore it.

We get this question all the time. Even when it is possible through the va, ask them, it won’t be at 168 hours a week. If you’re born in 1980, you’re only 42 and will have to work for ss at a real job taking out taxes
