Well, I must keep my windows too clean or there are clumsy or blind birds near my home because sometimes there are a dozen birds a day that fly into my windows.

I have a glass door that enters my kitchen. I also have two sets of double glass doors that open up to my patio. I have two large corner windows in my kitchen. I have French doors along the front of our home. We have several windows that line the bedrooms and bathrooms. Our front door has sidelights and a transom. We custom built our home with tons of natural light.

Birds are always flying into the windows and glass doors. Sometimes so hard that they knock themselves out! It’s upsetting.

I can’t possibly believe the superstition because it happens all of the time. A bird flew into my classroom when I taught school. I had a really hard time getting it outside.

Anyway, do any of you believe in superstitions or dreams that are supposed to mean death? Just curious...

Shell,

Anne Rice is still involved here. She adores New Orleans. She has the vampire ball annually. She no longer lives here. She owned Brevard house and at one time she owned St. Elizabeth’s after it closed (an orphanage). Huge mansions! She grew up on St. Charles Ave. She grew up Catholic. She’s a fascinating woman.

Superstition, Dreams, Intuitions, Premonitions. I find this all so interesting.

I do seem to have dreams that seem to “ get my head straight” when I am struggling with some issue. Last week I had a dream about an issue. One of the players in my dream kept saying “ someone just needs to blink!” Yes, absolutely, someone does need to blink in this situation. But who? The player in the dream that was freaking out? I don’t know...

We did an exercise in Psychology class when I was was a senior in high school. 10 cards from a regular game deck. You called the card then the card was turned. I called 9 out of 10. I don’t know who was more freaked out me or the class.

No, I did not explore this further as my Psychology teacher suggested. It scared the Bejeebers out of me.

No I am not superstitious but I do have many birds fly into my windows as well. We have an open foyer with windows top to bottom and they will fly into the glass. Sometimes they die, mostly get knocked out as there is no carcas left when I check outside.

It breaks my heart whenever this happens, which can be once a day.

I did get a reflector to use on a window - it looks like a sticker of a bird. But it does not work.

Poor babies. It’s very upsetting.

My grandmother used to always tell me that every time you see a shooting star, someone was going to die. And I’m familiar with the bird hitting the window thing, I don’t believe in any of this stuff, although it gives me pause when any of it happens !

Tacy and Alva,

Can you share more about dreams. I believe dreams are some sort of message to us.

I believe dreams are a different way our brain is trying to work on our problems. It is not our rational common-sense brain, but our more fantastical brain, and it tells its advice and stories in allegories. I can ask for a "message" dream on a subject before sleep, and at times get some so scary profound that I seldom ask. At first they will often seem terrifying, but if I just sit and write them out, the rational words I use in writing begin to make their messages very clear to me. I recently had an old, now long dead, hear nurse come back to visit me and sit me down and tell me hard truths. She was always the best at telling me the worst and best about myself, sometimes the worst and best being the same thing. While things she told me were sometimes hard to hear, I learned more from her than anyone. When I awakened I said "Oh, my. There's M.H. out there, still trying to teach me". I absolutely believe they have messages for us, but I believe they are our own messages; they are trying to tell us things we already know, trying to help us comb through all the chatter to think about things in a better way.

Alva,

Fascinating is right! I know the vampire stuff. I live in New Orleans. Anne Rice lived here. Interesting woman. Incredible writing about vampires. Her houses here was amazing!

She left New Orleans after her husband died. She now lives in California.

We built a little glass cabin once. And yup, same thing. I ended with tying reflector tape on windows by the strip, especially in breeding season when they went really wonky, and keeping the bird feeder well away from the little house.
Not superstitious (though am known to knock wood), because a hummingbird is in and out of my bro's house constantly when his door open. If you leave them they find their way out just fine. And my bro is still hanging in there. Now is is of an age, so eventually.......but doubt it is the fault of the hummer.
I do believe in dreams, believe they try to help us work things through in allegorical tales and puzzles we can work out in writing them down. As with tarot, "Death" doesn't always mean death. It can mean the death of old ways, and rebirth, renewal.

I love hummingbirds. So sweet. Don’t think I would want one in my house though.

Birds hit the windows at my sister's all the time but I've only had one or two here at my house so no, that doesn't portend death to me. Now a bird in the house... that one can send a little shiver up my spine.

My Dad did have one substitute later afternoon caregiver who had never seen my Mom who was living in long-term-care. For some reason, that caregiver felt the need to tell my Dad that he needs to go visit my Mom.

Dad didn't want to go as he saw Mom with his earlier shift caregiver at noon. This caregiver insisted and insisted he should go. So he finally gave in and went with her. Dad was so glad he saw my Mom, as Mom passed in the wee hours of the next morning [I was with her]. Was it a coincident or did that caregiver have a premonition?
