I have POA of my brother, 73. He is currently in a facility that has given me a 30 day written notice to transfer him to a facility that has a Memory Care unit. He is in a small rest home and continues to wander in and out of the other residents rooms. When confronted by the residents and/or pushed out of their room, he retaliates and smacks them. This has happened 6 times in the last year. Of course this behavior has become part of his file at the nursing home. So, when potential Memory Care facilities view this, they don't want anything to do with him! I live in Ohio and have pretty much exhausted my search for a venue to take someone with dementia who displays aggression. The current nursing facility where he lives has even helped me search to no avail. I am at the end of my rope and the 30 day notice has come and gone. The facility where he is staying is becoming aggressive about getting him out of there. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

My uncle went to psych. hospital in Texas then back to previous nursing home. Dementia is getting worse, i.e, trying to escape, pushing women around in their wheelchairs and thinks it's his wife. Psych. hospital and doctor won't readmit to adjust medications. Nursing home wants him gone but we cannot find a memory unit that will take him. What can I do to get him in a psych. hospital for medication adjustments to keep him calm?

So maybe he needs meds adjusted again.

My heart really goes out to you. You are not alone in your predicament. I wish I had an answer. I think another stay in the psychiatric facility may be best (only) option. I hope they can achieve another stable level for him. Where ever he goes after that, would it be feasible for monthly psychiatric checkups, to keep ahead of the curve?

I am so sorry that you and your brother are experiencing this.

Thanks for your response. That has already taken place 6 months ago. He was transferred to a psychiatric facility for 3 weeks. They adjusted his medication and sent him back to his current facility. The adjustment seemed to help for awhile. Now he's at it again.

The facility will Baker Act him unless you do it first. That means inpatient 72 hour psychiatric evaluation and medication adjustment. Get it done.
