Find Care & Housing
What kind of doctor made the evaluation?  Was she given hearing tests to determine her range?   It might be that she does have a hearing deficit, but if a doctor other than one who knows how to administer hearing evaluation tests isn't able to detect the hearing, the deficit she has might not be diagnosed.

The other thing is that she may have blocked eustachian tubes.   My hearing is affected when my sinuses plug up and the eustachian tubes become blocked.

Another issue is whether she can or can't hear when someone is NOT speaking directly to her and facing her.

Hi GardenArtist,

Thank you for your response. I have taken her to an Otolaryngologist and Audiologist. They both have told me the same thing.

Mamacare, it could be because with dementia that your Mom's brain is scrambling the words, thus making everything you say sound confusing to her. Sadly there isn't anything one can do :(
