Good morning all-


Ok, going out on a limb here, but I am curious as to whether any fellow caregivians have been able to fit a nice healthy shift into your daily routines and if so, how you did it? Fingers are crossed for some positive feedback and insight that will help others.

Thank you- Alva, your daily walks are great shifts; Catnk9, I find much comfort and happiness in my pets too! I have quite a mini zoo: 2 chiweenie dogs, 2 kitties, 3 sulcata tortoise hatchlings, 2 sugar gliders. The tortoises are my first non-furries I ever had and I am amazed at how much personality each of them has- who’da thunk it?

Am not hands on caregiver with my brother, but long distance across the state calls such as yesterday when he believed someone had stolen from him (maybe and maybe not) and the management of all the financial, and trying to get together debacles over his demolished vehicle and the machinations of the Tow company keep my MIND so focused on my bro and my bro only that it is somewhat a torment at 77. I try. I get out for a long walk for sure daily (except yesterday when my walk involved the DMV crowds). I sew. I garden and read and have become a bit of a True Crime podcast addict. I do puzzle books and I try what I can to divert my mind, to give it a diversion. At present I can only say I try. This only happened to me and bro last February. I hope by NEXT February at least the mailing addresses, the billing addresses, that stuff will all be sifted out and it will be easier because honestly this stuff should be. There's also his small place to be sold; certain that will be a pain. So it is more what preys on my mind and what I try to run from. I cannot imagine what those with hands on caregiving are going through because it must be truly impossible to escape. Good question.

I've fostered animals all my life and I'm a 65 yrs experienced widow. 10 yrs ago my 80 yrs experienced mother moved in with me. She had never had an inside animal but, that was not going to be possible for me. Animals have always comforted me and give me the reason to get up and be much more active. They can take me from crying and hopeless to laughing, loving and happy in seconds! Never causing me to cry until they pass away.

If it's possible think about pet, dogs are my favorite (actually horses but, don't tell them that) I need healthy "shifts" in my day in a regular doses and my momma loves them all. We spend the majority of time in my room with a child's gate and mom enjoys them too when we are coming and going in and out thru the day.

Maybe not the answer your actually looking for but, around here we take it one day at a time. Good Luck
