In your profile, you wrote that you were taking care of Bob living at home with age related decline. How is Bob's physical and mental condition? Can he get around? Feed himself? Use the bathroom by himself?

If he's capable of the above, you may want to have him join a local senior daycare center if there's one. Around where I live, those centers will provide transportation door to door to/from the center, breakfast, lunch, social actities, exercises, and health monitoring by a nurse, Many seniors don't have a big appetite so lunch portion usually covers dinner as well. Typically, it runs from 8 am to about 2 pm, and costs around $90/day, or $15/hr. You can join Monday though Friday or less if you want.

Here in the Cleveland OH area it's hard to find any help via an agency for less than $20/hour, and that's getting rare...and with a minimum of 4 hours. If you take on the responsibility of hiring privately the burden is on you for legalities like taxes and background checks etc. For the tasks you mention, you may make it far easier, if not cheaper for yourself by looking into options for home delivery of groceries as well as restaurant delivery of meals/food if not meal delivery like Meals on Wheels. Keep in mind as well that you could order more than one meal at a time from a restaurant to eat another night or potentially freeze. It may be far easier than dealing with a human....or two....

Well, it really depends. Agencies usually send a caregiver for a minimum of four hours. Prices will vary depending on the agency. Have you tried Council on Aging for this person. If they qualify, it is free.

You could hire someone privately. People charge various rates. You may have more flexibility with a private caregiver.
