He gets protective when I try to look at all the pills he has by the bed. He doesn't want me to see all the stuff.

Paranoia is often a symptom of Alzheimers. Your looking at his meds may trigger some paranoia. It's this paranoia that triggers some people to hide their meds or to hide anything really. Glasses. Clothes. Trinkets.

Can you give us more information.... are these pill bottles with many pills in each bottle or just the pills needed for the day?

If the pills are in pill bottles, I would take them away immediately and put them under lock and key... that is what is done in Assisted Living and in Nursing homes as a person with memory issues can't remember if they took a pill or not, thus can overdose or not take the pills at all.

You cannot be sure if he is even taking his meds or correctly. Just watch for changes in his personality. I manage all my husbands meds he has Dementia. He has no clue what he takes now he depends on me. Just remember, Alz/Dem patients can be very very deceitful. You have to keep on top of everything and that can be exhausting trying to think ahead of him.
