These support groups would be ones that physically come together regularly for meetings to emotionally support one another, provide helpful insights to questions and the various unknowns we're dealing with. In addition, they would be a family who is there to encourage and to uplift one another. They might meet at a local church facility, a school or, perhaps, a library in the local area. I have a hard time finding people I can surround myself with and be interactively involved with; most folks look at me and laugh, because of my heart-felt concern for the elderly lady I look after. So, what I'm saying is, I need to surround myself with a good core group of individuals who I can socialize with; my issues are not that I don't have the time. No; it's more about the perception others have of me and how they'll label me as being "boring," without even taking the time to get to know me. They "slap" the BORING label on me, simply because I'm a "caregiver." Does anyone know what I'm talking about and where I might find access to these types of support groups?

karieh,
Thank you for your insights; actually, since I posted that question I found a listing of support groups. The local Council on Aging wasn't any help, but, I went a few counties over from where I reside and was able to get in contact with an organization that conducts and hosts support groups for caregivers. Thank you, though, for reaching out and sharing that input with me. - Brian

My employed social worker conducts "Caregiver Support Groups" at local senior centers. I would suggest contacting each of your local senior centers and ask if a caregiver support group meets at their community center. Some will have them, some will not.
