This person is sleeping in bed and then sits up to get out of bed? Does s(he) actually get out of bed?

And is the moaning and groaning occurring while they sleep as well?

Talk to his/her doctor about a sleeping medication. Not anything that will knock this person out but something that will allow them to have a peaceful night's rest. This may alleviate the moaning and groaning as well.

Thanks for your answer -- you don't have all the facts. Since my question, her hospice nurse has evaluated her as having Terminal Agitation and we have now had to up her meds to calm her anxiety and combativeness. Unfortunately, she is in the latter stages of dementia. Trying to get out of bed at 100 yrs. old when she is not capable of standing and will injure herself has been a nightmare this past week. Thankfully, our hospice group is very helpful and we now know what to do to relieve her anxiety. Thanks again.

I'm sorry to hear of your loved ones's condition. I recently did some reading on Terminal Agitation. I had never heard of it before. I hope you can find something that will work to being her some peace.
