Does your friend's doctor mean a medical alert system that he wears around his neck or on his wrist, something he can push to alert the system if he had fallen or is feeling very ill?

Have your friend, or you contact the local council on aging.... if you live in the States, go to the website link below.... click on your State.... now click on the city/county. The agency might be able to give names of several companies to contact.

Thanks for clarifying that.... I use a Medic Alert bracelet myself because I am allergic to certain medicines. Google "medicalert.org", this organization has been around for over 50 years, and I have been a member for the past 25 years.

The doctor may have meant a simple ID bracelet that is engraved with his name and who to contact. Try to keep him off the public rail system, it will only get him lost in a worse way than driving.

I believe the doc meant the ID type of bracelet. You can find ads for them in the AArp magazine or online. Just name, Alzheimers home address and an emergency contact number.

Thank you so much for your response. Jack's doctor suggested a medical alert bracelet in the event he becomes disoriented when he's on public transportation or taking a walk. (He recently lost his driver's license.) Since Jack lives alone, I've spoken with him about a medical alert system that he can wear around his neck and can push to alert the system if he has fallen or is in need of assistance. Jack didn't like the idea at all -- quite a bit of resistance -- so for the time being, I've let the idea rest. I'll research options, however, so that if/when Jack is receptive to such support, we'll know how to proceed. Thank you, again, for taking time to respond. It means the world.
