Is it possible to live with someone in a temporary arrangement to see if you like the concept of independent living?

When I started looking into ALFs for Mom there was one (Emeritus) that did have the option of a roommate. This is a good idea if someone is social and is okay with having someone else share his or her space. It also reduces the cost of care.
I think if you loved one is social, it is a good idea. You may want to have them live in the room alone, then allow them to meet someone at the ALF to consider as a roommate.

I'm looking for someone to be my Mom's roommate in a 2 bedroom Independent Living (with assistance) community. The facility's charge for the two seniors to split would be $1,450.00 per month. That provides 3 meals a day in the dining room, daily waste basket emptying and bed making, weekly apartment cleaning, 24/7 alert bell to wear and use in case of a fall or other need, and daily activities. The roommate would also have patient care at additional fees is needed.
