My uncle has Parkinsons, Depression, Anxiety, Glaucoma and is hard of sight. He had been living in an assisted living home nearby in Buffalo NY only to receive very poor service. Does anyone have experience with any great nursing homes in the area with excellent and reliable services such as the management of medicine, grooming/bathing, mobility assistance? We need him to be close to the Canadian border as his family all lives in Toronto Canada. Thank you kindly

Kayunsis, to get a list of other nursing homes in your Uncle's area, go to the blue bar at the top of your screen.... on the left side you will see 3 white lines, click on that.... then you will see a SEARCH.... type in the zip code of the area you want.   Up will pop a list of various senior living facilities.

Sorry I can't narrow it down for you.   The only way that can be done is if there is a caregiver who comes on-line here who is from your immediate area.   You will find this Aging Care website goes world wide.

Hi freqflyer - you have helped me before - thank you!

The reason I ask for the actual nursing home experience from others is that I find that online reviews are sometimes not indicative of the real level of service you receive once you move in.

Some reviews are written by the facilities themselves to enhance their positive ratings.

Just wondering is it possible for him to move to Canada to be with his family?

Any way his family can petition for him to become a Canadian citizen?

If the Uncle moves to Canada, he could lose all of his Medicare benefits. That would be a very important item to check.

Yes it is true, he would lose his Medicare and Long Term Care Insurance but we did think of petitioning him to become a Canadian Citizen however the costs of private nursing home care would still be cost prohibitive especially not knowing what his needs are going forward.
