He is almost silent at home with me but has always liked to talk with other men about sports, and bowling and men talk. I was hoping to find a place where I could leave him for a short time and see if he enjoys it. He is able to take care of his needs pretty well by himself so just hoping to find something he can find some enjoyment in and give me a little break for myself.

Bobbi, a lot of people have sung praises about Adult Day care, perhaps there is something available in your area?

What about a bowling alley coffee shop, if he can be left alone? Can you ask a friend to accompany him?

We stopped by a donut shop. The men in the area were gathering at several tables with their coffee and donuts.

A park bench, men playing chess in the park, lawn bowling at the county park, lunch only at a senior center with congegate meals.

Bobbi,
If I needed to drop off dH sometime, and pick him up later, I would choose a time when the men gather to clean the church. He wouldn't be the only one not really cleaning. I have observed groups of men talking, working, and only two out of ten are actually doing any work. I find this an interesting phenomenon.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I asked him yesterday about going to a day care center for adults but he did not like that idea. He does not talk to me much but he seems to want me to be with him all the time.

Bobbie, maybe if the two of you checked it out together he would be less reluctant, it is understandable that he would be fearful of trying new things when he knows his mind is not what it should be. If it looks like something that is a good fit he could try it out on days you can't be with him... off to he hairdresser or spa perhaps? ;)
