Find Care & Housing
Visit some places you’re interested in mom living and ask to meet with the business manager. Meet with an elder care attorney, the guidance on legal matters is vital. The business manager at my mom’s NH was knowledgeable on LTC, Medicaid, and other matters, she walked us through much without charge

L@@k at the top right (in the aqua bar) on this web page and find "Care Topics". If you click on that, it will take you to every conceivable topic for which you may have a question for you to read articles and read posts. This forum is an excellent place to "drill down" and get more specific info from individuals and their recent experiences and wisdom.

Otherwise, you could try to hire a geriatric advisor to guide and manage what comes next for your mom.

If you are not already your mom's Durable Power of Attorney, this is where you both must start (DPoA doesn't have to be you, but she should have one or else the county/state will need to step in to legally make medical and financial decisions on her behalf). Schedule an appointment with an elder law/estate planning attorney for your mom. Yes, it costs money but it will cost more (and in more painful ways) if she enters dementia/cognitive decline/memory impairment without a trusted legal representative. Can't stress this step enough.

Try your County Office of Aging.

Check your health insurance and hers. You may have access to a Social Worker or case manager to talk things over with and help make plans. Also, if you are employed, see if you have access to an Employee Assistance Program for the same type of help.
