I have been seeing my therapist for 10 years and she ended with me on February 24. Because after 10 years I cannot keep in touch with her. She says that when therapy ends it ends. What will happen if I go to her house? I do not like my new therapist. I would like the therapist that I am working with to get in contact with her. I would like to call my old therapist up and say it is an emergency. I need to talk to her to find me a good therapist.

Do not go to old therapists house. They could and probably should get a restraining order on you since you are getting into potential stalking territory now.

Leave your therapist alone. She has made it clear she doesn't want contact. Call your county mental health agency to get a list of therapists who are accepting new patients. Or ask your family doctor for a referral. talk to your rabbi about a suggestion for someone new. Ask your doctor for referral to a geri-psychiatrist for an evaluation. Maybe you need a medication instead of talk therapy. ten yearsis a long time for talk therapy.

Shirley, if you are that depressed and feel you are having an emergency, please go to the nearest hospital that is affiliated with a medical school via the ER.

It very much sounds to me like you need in-patient treatment and medication.

Barb, You're right. I think she and her husband would be better off with facility care. And medication.

Hi Shirley1946,

I am sorry that your therapist has retired and understand that finding a new one can be stressful and difficult. If you are having a mental health emergency, please immediately call SAMHSA’s 24/7 National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or the 24/7 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.

I'm also writing to ask that you please stop posting the same question repeatedly on the Caregiver Forum. Other members have already responded to your initial post, which you can find by copy/pasting this link into your browser:

https://www.agingcare.com/questions/i-have-been-seeing-a-therapist-for-10-years-and-she-has-retired-what-do-i-do-now-473566.htm

Additionally, please refrain from posting the name and location of your therapist(s). This infringes on their privacy and violates our forum policy. I strongly discourage you from going to your therapist's house as well.

I have compiled a list of online resources that may help you find the mental health services and supports you are seeking:

American Psychological Association Psychologist Locator

Psychology Today

GoodTherapy

Montgomery County, MD, Behavioral Health, Counseling and Wellness Supports

I have private messaged and emailed you the contents of this post as well. I hope this helps. Please take care of yourself, Shirley1946.

Lastly, I agree with JoAnn29's recommendation and will be closing this thread to new comments.

If this forum were a therapist, it would have gone into hiding or obtained a restraining order against Shirley.

People come here for help, not to be put down. I PMd you a while back about this OP. Have some compassion.

Shirley, if you show up at your therapist/social worker's home, she's likely to call the POLICE to have you removed from her property!!! Move on, and look into Assisted Living now, that's your best bet.

I said this is a post that was deleted because it seemed to be a duplicate.

Shirley, I have no idea what you feel this forum can do for you. Suggestions have been made and you refuse to reply. We are ordinary people mostly living in the US dealing with caring for our own LOs. The last therapist you saw was a SW with a Masters degree. Maybe you need more than a therapist is capable to give you. You need a higher level of care. Maybe you and DH should look into an Assisted Living where you don't have all the care of your husband. There are aides to help.

From one of your posts you said that your therapist wants no more contact with you. She is retired and retired for a reason. She no longer wants to work with clients. If you don't like this therapist find another and another till you find the right fit.

We are so sorry we cannot help you but you need help that we are not qualified to give.

Admin: Can you just stop this thread from being answered. I think the OP needs to see our responses. I also think she needs to be blocked at this point because we cannot help her in the way she needs. But that is your call.
