Mom has COPD and other health issues. They are n Medicare but less than 24,000 income between them, with insurance, supplemental, and other medical expenses taking a huge amount of this. They do own home, but have no other asset. If they were divorced, they would both be eligible for financial assistance. How can she get help with someone coming in a few times a week to help with bathing, giving her a break for a couple of hours, etc? I live in Fl and come twice a month to help, but she needs more.

If your father's doctor deems him suitable for Home Health, he can write a prescription for it and they will come do an assessment of need and then for a (variable) period of time can get a weekly nurse visit, a bath aide, and appropriate therapies. Medicare will pay for this. They do not offer sitting or respite services. Certainly though, at any time she can hire a Home Care Aide through private pay. Different companies have different hours for their services, so she should call around and ask. Also, check their health insurance policy to see if it will cover anything. If they are a member of a church, she should let them know that she needs help. Church members are always looking for ways to serve. Maybe there is a neighbor who could stay with him for a while once a week. When my niece was in high school, she earned a little money sitting with a bedbound man for a couple of hours after school. I hope that something works out for your mother. She has a tough job.

Sorry, I should have said different companies have different MINIMUM hours for their services. For example, Home Instead near us has a bath aide for one hour, or a personal care aide which will bathe and other duties, minimum four hours.
