Find Care & Housing
Dear Yalegal, I would consider asking the doctor to evaluate her medications and reviewing her blood work or doing some mental testing. Is she getting enough food and water? It could be a lot of things, but I would encourage you to get her evaluated and if need be, I would seek a second and third opinion. I'm so glad you noticed this change and are asking these questions on behalf of your mother. Thinking of you. Hoping you can find something that will help your beloved mother.

Vascular dementia is progressive and this change suggests more damage to the brain. On the other hand, have there been any changes in medications? Does bloodwork show any change in liver or kidney functions?
My MIL did become quieter as the brain continued to shrink. She was 88 and wanted no more medical interventions of any kind, so our job was to keep her comfortable and avoid ER visits.
