Holly, is your friend making a connection between COVID and showering? That doesn't appear logical.

Does he have a doctor he sees and trusts?

oops, I keep trying to reply. His docter is a bit dishonest and sells pills. But I definitely can leave wet wipes where he can find them. A lot of people here stopped showering for covid! Our officials really over played it. But I think my friend is having control issues. He hates wearing the masks etc.

He may be afraid that he will fall in the shower. Does he have a shower bench, grab bars, and a secure shower mat? If not, making sure he has those things may help. He may also have to hire someone to come in and assist him in the shower. Before my husband became bedridden, I would have to help him get in the shower, wash him up, and then help him out too, as sometimes he would forget how to step out of his walk in shower.
You can also have him purchase some extra large body wipes for adults for the in-between times, along with the rinse less shampoo caps. They both work great for someone who can't regularly get in the shower.
Best wishes in helping your friend.

Thanks!! I will definitely buy some wet wipes and just leave them around. He may get angry if I suggest the other. But maybe I can work it in.

I am amazed at how easy it was to convert my regular tub to a 'sitting shower'.

I had foot/ankle surgery and can't get it wet for 2 more weeks--so I got the shower stool down from the attic and bought a clamp on handrail that attaches to the tub. Between the two I have been able to get a good shower every other day. Dh didn't want a permanent set of grab bars and these are amazingly strong. Bought them online--BiosLiving is the company, I think they make several. This one clamps on and then you screw it tight. DH weighs almost 275 lbs and he feels safe using it.

When I can shower again, I can hold on to this to get in and out of the tub. I don't bathe, I always shower, so I don't worry about getting up.

COVID is probably not the root cause of his fear, but it upset everything and everybody for so long.

Hi everyone, thanks very much. He seems to be responding to all the craziness we have had. CA is still in restrictions and masks . And my friend says over and over he can't understand. (I don't understand either). My stepmother seems to have gone straight into dementia too saying "these are the end times" etc. ☺But thanks for the suggestions! Not sure it will work since he likes to act 25. But I agree those measures could help. I will definitely buy adult cleansing wipes and just leave them around. Thank you so much !! Holly

Hi! You know a lot of people here seem to have stopped showering for covid! But in his case I think its a control thing. He's been very angry about all the restrictions. But doing a little better. I told him he'll feel better if he changes clothes etc. I think he has dementia and also takes a lot of pills from long ago. But I will get some wet wipes and put them where he can find them . His docter seems like a shyster/pill pusher.

Holly, to be honest I never once heard anything about not showering due to covid. There is zero connection, so do you know why some people are saying that?

Holly, good idea about the wet wipes. Just be sure they aren’t flushed down the toilet.

My wife: “Hey! Flushable wipes.” Me: “Uh, I’ll call the plumber.”
