I am the sole caretaker for mother and used all help eligible for her. Mother has beginnings of dementia and cannot be left to roam around house. We have a TV, Potty chair, dorm fridge, bed and recliner in her room. She has things to eats & drink, a phone, a life alert button and everything she needs to be comfortable in her room, but not wander and get into things that can seriously harm her or she can get outside to get lost or hurt. Is this against the law?

Find Care & Housing
Ask yourself if she'd be safe if a fire broke out in the house. That will give you your answer.

It sounds like she's well beyond "mild" dementia.

OK, if she presses that life alert button, and emergency responders kick in the door and find her locked in her room, you go to jail. Charges may include "false imprisonment", "endangering the welfare" and "aggravated neglect". If you don't believe me, ask APS.

It may not be against the law but it should not be happening. You must come up with a better way. This is flying "On a wing and a prayer"

Absolutely not. If she needs constant viligance, you should put her in assisted living or a nursing home.
