Should I give the current agency notice that I may be changing, or wait until it's all set up with the new provider? How much notice is fair?
I'm not unhappy with the current aide, but I've found another agency which has a lower cost by $140 a week, so a substantial savings for my parents. The current aide has been with my parents every weekend for 2 years now. She isn't spectacular (does the minimum, nothing extra), but she does always show up and hasn't stolen, broken or abused. I want to be fair to her and plan to give her a antique lamp she's admired and a cash bonus. Any suggestions on how much?

Depending on how far off you are to concluding arrangements with the new agency, I think I'd give at least a 2 week notice to give them time to find another job for your current aide. It's just basic courtesy, and you write that you're not displeased with this aide, so it helps her and the agency keep a continued income for her.

I agree with Eyerishlass about the gift giving; some agencies may prohibit it.

You can do whatever you need to do whenever you need to do it as long as you didn't sign a contract stating that you are required to do otherwise. Do what's most convenient for you. If your agency is decent they'll wish you luck and tell you to call them if you ever need their services again.

(I think it's a nice gesture to give the lamp to your current aide but check with her agency first. She may not be allowed to accept any type of gift or cash bonus from clients).

You have a good aide. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. The cheaper agency charges less because they pay less. You get the dregs of healthcare.
