Good start. You might also ask your mom who the lawyer was (I know she has dementia but she might remember or provide you a couple names to get started) then you can call around. There should be no cost to you if you find the attorney and report your factual information.

Secondly, contact the utility companies and provide your sisters info. Request that they note your sisters address and phone number on your moms account and explain your mom has dementia and you want to make sure they have the correct contact info and that your sister has financial POA.

This will at least have them harassing your sister if she isn't paying or performing her financial duties on behalf of your mom.

That's what I would do.

Cynthia.. you need to get in touch with the attorney who set up your sister as POA and have her removed as POA, if you don't know who the attorney is, find an elder attorney immediately, do this tomorrow first thing. Explain that your mother is being taken advantage of and her bills are not being paid.

Cynthia, Most likely the Div on Aging will set you up with free legal services if you or your Mom financially qualify. It would be with your county Elder Law Unit.
