Find Care & Housing
You have to have a work or educational visa. You cannot get an educational visa without a sponsor from your home country. The sponsorship has to cover all of your educational and living expenses. You also have to pass an English as a Second Language exam before you can be admitted to most colleges and universities. Federal financial aid is not given to foreign students. The list of countries that are accepted for 2021 will be available in the fall 2019. The 2016 list of countries is very out of date. A country on the list for 2016 may not be on lists for 2021. That is the next lottery For which you would be eligible. Also be very aware that agents in countries outside the United States may claim to have ways to win a lottery spot. These are scams for which you will be asked to pay large sums of money. The only way to win a spot is to follow the requirements of the Diversity Lottery. Because it is a diversity lottery there may not be very many of your fellow citizens in most American towns. So you would not find many support programs in your town.

I live in a university community. Most foreign students in my area are from Canada, China, Ethiopia, South Africa, West Africa, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. These students are usually married and attending US universities in specific fields and have complete support from their governments. Many of the African students are sponsored financially by their home countries and socially in the US by either the United Methodist Church or the Episcopalian church. If you come on an educational visa you cannot work legally in the US. Completing your education in the US does not give you the right to work or stay in the US. Your visa will expire within 30 days of graduating.

if you have a relative living in the United States legally, it might be possible for them to sponsor you.

Winning the dv lottery is difficult. Make sure you are from a country that is eligible. There is also some talk that the lottery will be eliminated. Job availability would depend on where you want to live and your language skills in both speaking, reading and writing English. It’s very difficult or impossible to live on a minimum wage salary.

I hope that you realize that what you earn per hour you do not receive.  Both state and Federal govt. take out taxes, and a few other things come out.  can you get a church (in USA) to help you out?  Someone to answer questions, look with you for rental, cheap furniture, etc.?  I know nothing about work Visas.  Good luck!

The cost of living here depends entirely on where you choose to live specifically. The cost of living varies from state to state but even in states with a higher cost of living, there are affordable places to live BUT there will probably be fewer career opportunities.

In my part of California, rent is very high. Just yesterday I saw a posting for a room for rent. $1000 a month! Minimum wage is $12 an hour. If you work full time, you make $1920 BEFORE taxes. If you are single, your take-home pay will probably be around $1500 a month. If you plan to come over here without a higher education and marketable skills, you will probably find it very hard to get a job that pays a LIVEABLE wage.

U r right this question is way off topic and also a little confusing. But minimum wage is $7.25 an hour (I think). And depending on where u live, rent for 2 bedroom apartment around $1000-$1500/month

Minimum wage varies from state to state and rent can varie from city to city. Where I live minimum wage is 9.45 an hour and rent for a one bedroom can cost anywhere from 800.00 to 1200.00 month and I live in a small town. As someone stated you can not live on minimum wage, plus you most likely won't get 40 hrs a week, so most people are working 2 to 3 jobs just to get by. You really need to have a skill set to make a good living here. Our country is and has been going through a rough time.

I don't think there is any other way to come into the USA unless you get a school or work visa.

Thank you for answering.The minimum
9 usd per hour can be coverage for only me . But as you said 2 or 3 jobs will be more coverage. It's really hard to consider live in USA .

If one works for minimum wage in fast food or retail, either full time or part time, the companies have policies that have you committed to availability at mostly all times with changing shifts, variable hours, so a second or 3rd job can set in motion the "at will employment" curse. The employer just decides not to give you any hours, at their will. It is barely possible to make a living wage (at the minimum wage) for these reasons.

The poor will always be among us.
