Mom lives in the "independent" wing of a very nice assisted-living facility not far from my home. I wash and set her hair every week, but it is getting hard for her to "lean over" the basin to accomplish this. When I take her to the salon, they have such nice basins, so she can lean back instead of forward. Are there any places that sell something that would simulate this? It would make it so much easier for her and for me!

amazon has something called, " EZ-Shampoo Hair Washing Tray" in Health & Personal Care. There is also a "Duro-Med Wash and Rinse Tray with Spray Nozzle". Both are plastic trays designed to be placed on the kitchen sink, and allow a person to sit in a chair, with their back to the sink, and with a slight tilt to the head. Some stores might sell them, if they carry surgical supplies where you live too.

Yes, they make such things. Try a beauty supply store like " Sally's".

They actually sell a shampoo cap. They use them in hospitals. You put the cap on and move it around. It washes the hair. The hair comes out wet and clean and you throw the cap away. I think I got some on Amazon for my mom. They are really cool!

Yes, they sell everything you need in Medical supply stores. Also in between you may want to use a none rinse shampoo, you just spray it on and lather it, then towel it dry. I use it for my husband, who is terrified of water, so he only gets a shower once a week when someone comes in to help me bathe him. The rest of the time I just wash him in the basin. Good luck.

My Mom is in a wheelchair and too low for the sink. Once I hoyered her to the sink but it takes two of us. Every day I take johnsons baby shampoo on a washcloth and suds up her hair. (I put on a haircutting plastic wrap gown and hand towel around her neck, or a chux) I then take a wet washcloth and rinse it as best as I can. (if you get too much soap, dry paper towels help to take it out)Then I keep combing water thru her hair until its all out. Towel then blow dry. Her hair comes out beautiful everyday. I hate that greasy scalp smell older people seem to get. When I started doing her hair, it had that "smell" so I used mens Irish Spring Body gel wash and oh her hair smelled beautiful. I now soak her hairbrushes in it and use it occasionally on her.
If you buy the no rinse soap its what they use in the caps they sell so you can just do it yourself with a washcloth and no rinse soap spray. Personally with my Moms hair those soaps make it look greasy. They also have dry sprays but you have to be so careful with them that I dont bother with those . Good luck!

I had the same problem with my mom because she had hurt her back. I found the "Duro-Med Wash and Rinse Tray with Spray Nozzle" on Amazon. We put a chair up to the kitchen sink & this product does simulate getting her hair washed in a salon. Her back is much better but we will continue using the tray because it is so much easier.
