Find Care & Housing
Google "home healthcare" and your zip code.

I would work with an agency. Their employees are all bonded and insured and you don't have to be an employer. Plus, they run background checks and can replace an aide if one is out sick or can't make it for some reason.

Your best bet is to contact your local Area on Aging and ask them these same questions.

There are many home care agencies, but it all depends if this gentleman could afford to use their expert care.

To add to the excellent points Eyerishlass mentioned above about an Agency.... if you hire someone on their own, you would need to add a "workman's comp" rider to your homeowner's or renter's insurance, that will help cover pay lost due to injury for the worker.
