I Currently Live In Assisted Living. Right Now I Have A Private Room. I am A Self Pay. However I Will Start Receiving Medicaid Within The Next 5 Months. Can Anyone Tell Me If I Will Lose My Single Room Due To The Fact That I Will No Longer Be A ''Self Pay.''

That depends on your facility. They would be the one to ask about their Medicaid policy.

Medicaid doesn't care if you share a room with four people or have your own room. They simply pay a flat amount. Most facilities cannot afford to accept that amount as full payment for a private room. But as JessieBelle says, it is up to them, so that is where to direct your question.

Bryan50, if you think the facility will move you to another room or bring in a room-mate, is there another person living at the facility that you would like to be your room-mate? If yes, and that person is agreeable, ask management if the two of you could share a room. That way you get to choose your roommate :)

Most facilities reserve private rooms for private pay. Perhaps you can approach the director of your AL and ask for a roommate yourself. If you're proactive you will have more control of your living situation. I wish you lots of luck.

Bryan, talk to the admissions counselor NOW, because most assisted living places are private pay only. Hopefully you will not have to find a new facility.
